Over 5.2 million overseas tourists visited Ireland from January to September 2024, generating €4.85 billion for the Irish economy, up +16% from last year (CSO October 2024).
While we need to welcome more of our British neighbours from across the water, September 2024 was a solid month for tourism from North America, with revenue up +34%, visitors up +19% and nights up +30%.
While positive that overseas numbers and spending have increased compared to last year, Alice Mansergh, CEO of Tourism Ireland, expressed concern with the increased business costs for our tourism industry workers.
Democracy & the Blarney Stone!
Generally speaking, democracy and culture are critical components in attracting both inbound investment and tourism to Ireland. Thankfully, Ireland is right up there on both counts. Five Star is seeing a marked increase in International buyers and tourists in 2024, mainly from the USA & China.
In another recent CSO stat, 80% of Irish people were satisfied with how democracy works in Ireland, compared with the EU average of 58%.
