The EU and India concluded negotiations today, creating a free trade zone encompassing 2 billion people. The historic free trade agreement is the largest such deal ever concluded by either side
Currently, the EU and India trade over €180 billion worth of goods & services per year, supporting close to 800,000 EU jobs. This new partnership is expected to double EU goods exports to India by 2032 and create new job opportunities on both sides.
The elimination of tariffs on EU exports to India will save approximately €4 billion in duties annually.
The Irish government has long had strong ties with India, and the Indian community is among the fastest-growing immigrant populations, with favourable cultural and family value exchanges between the two nations.
There should also be a significant boost to inbound tourism, travel and investment. Irish Taoiseach Micheál Martin described the deal as "a major breakthrough" which would give the EU access "to a huge international market".
