Luxury period house and lodge located in an area of outstanding natural beauty in West Cork. Originally built as a hunting lodge for Lord Carbery, this exquisite Regency house dates back to 1830 and still today retains many original features.
Magnificently set on a 15-acre private estate on the edge of the lake, the property benefits from a charming patio garden, beautiful walkways through the woods and gardens and a private shingle beach. A renowned scenic spot, the Lough is within 5 km of Skibbereen town and 4 km from Baltimore.
Five Star clients can enjoy country living at its best in this elegantly furnished manor, with its polished oak floors and antique furnishing. A vine-filled conservatory has a large breakfast area, a comfortable seating area, and rattan furniture. Sun pours through the French windows in the interconnecting reception rooms, offering spectacular views of the garden, Lough and surrounding hills.
Accommodation From the elegant panelled hall, a striking curved staircase leads to the first floor, where you will find three double bedrooms and a large bathroom.
The two front bedrooms overlook the sea and are tastefully decorated with material on the walls and fine furniture. One has an eighteenth-century four-poster bed; the others have twin beds. The charming third room overlooks the gardens. The bathroom is worth noting for its historic bathtub, which used to belong to Winston Churchill! On the ground floor, there are two further wood-panelled twin bedrooms, each with its own bathroom containing a bathtub and shower. The rowing boat is at your disposal to explore the island, where you can see the remains of an O'Driscoll castle and picnic on the beach or visit the shoreline and rapids that lead out to the sea.
Wonderful place for a family get together. Beautiful and comfortable house with lovely walks, great swimming and of course rowing all directly from the garden!

Our visit to the was wonderful. It is cosy warm, and sparkling clean. It was very well set up for these Covid times, with wipes and hand sanitizer provided, we felt very safe. The Lodge is delightful, and the scenery is stunning. We got a warm welcome and were taken care of very well. We had a wonderful time. Thank you very much.

We LOVED staying at the Lough. When we first drove up to home, we had to pinch ourselves. The beauty and enchantment of the home and lake were beyond our imagination. What a special place! We feel so lucky to have been able to stay there on our trip to Ireland. If you're looking for a storybook experience, then I highly recommend .

Breathtaking location. If you want to unwind and like walks and fresh air, this is the place to go. The accommodation is beautifully old fashioned, clean and comfortable. Views are amazing and bring you into daydreams. We were here in October and not so many tourists which was welcome. Thumbs up for couples wanting a romantic escape.

We found it hard to believe that the house and surrounding area could be as perfect as it liked and sounded on the web. However it exceeded even our best expectations. The lake on the doorstep is a large stunning saltwater swimming pool! A seal popped over to say hi every day we were there! We had the use of a rowboat and the private jetty to launch it. We snorkeled, swam, rowed, hiked all from our doorstep. At night the lake has a rare phenomenon of having bioluminescent plankton that basically flies in the dark when the water is disturbed - appears around 2 hours after sundown . Needless to say we swam at night - breathtaking, every stroke caused sparkles around us. I would travel the world to see this and years ago hoped to experience it in Australia but we missed out due to full moon and bad timing. Tim, caretaker, dropped wood for the beautiful open fire that we lit every evening. We cooked all our own meals as we didn't want to waste any time going to restaurants! The kitchen is better equipped than most places I've stayed for cooking, drinking etc. The dining area in a bay window overlooking the lake is amazing. I would advice to bring absolutely everything you need sustenance wise We were glad we brought our own tea/coffee etc as really the were very little basics there beyond salt/pepper and a few spices. Closest shop is in Baltimore about 6km away and Skibbereen (larger shopping town) about 10km so handy to nip to. Car essential. Value for money excellent. We will definitely return. This is a retreat for the soul. It is a small house - 1 twin room and one single room. Perfect for 2 or 3.
