Its historic compact historic centre is easy to explore on foot, and there are some excellent seafood restaurants and traditional taverns to choose from. From here, you can also board a ferry over to the island of Elba, best known as Napoleon's place of exile. Elsewhere, the city of Pisa and its iconic leaning tower is a little over an hour away, while the cradle of the Renaissance, Florence, is closer to two.
