Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said Ireland had supported Ukraine "since the very first days" of Russia's invasion despite its policy of military neutrality. Mr Zelensky was addressing a joint sitting of the Irish houses of parliament.

They say the camera allows no deceit and the world has taken to President Volodymyr Zelensky as his words of encouragement resonate through the camera lens and onto screens across the planet. Indeed a shout out to the brave reporters covering the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

With zero political experience, the comedian-actor was elected as Ukrainian president in 2019 on an anti-corruption agenda. Zelensky had faced waning support, but since Putin's invasion, his popularity has surged, with an approval rating of over 90 per cent.

However, unlikely, the Dancing with the Stars Ukraine champion in 2016 and star of 'Servant of the People' (TV Series 2015–2019) has become a global figurehead.
