Villa La Scala

In a quiet residential neighbourhood between Studio City and Sherman Oaks, this huge home is set on its own gated plot among swaying palm trees. Traditional in design, its interiors hark back to old-school Hollywood, with a Spanish twist to things like the sweeping staircase, double-height ceilings and the arched windows and doors. With room for a group of up to twelve to spread out and have their own space, there's no shortage of luxury either. There's a formal living room with a cosy fireplace, and if you feel like kicking your feet up in front of a movie, there's an additional family room with all sorts of entertainment equipment. Similarly, a casual lunch can be served at the kitchen table, or a fancy dinner can be enjoyed in the grand dining room – or even outside on the patio. Barbecue fans will delight in the outdoor kitchenette, where you can grill meals before sitting around the fire pit, and why not top it all off with a swim in the pool or a soak in the hot tub. Bedrooms are spacious and comfortable, and our favourite – the master – comes with a walk-in closet, fabulous en-suite bathroom and a private balcony. Here you'll be just a ten-minute drive from Universal Studios, and twenty-five minutes from the beach at Santa Monica.
