Though the style isn’t as cohesive, and two bedrooms may feel cramped by sleeping two extra guests on a sofa bed each, the elevator makes it accessible to a multi-generational family. Throw in a private wine cellar and open-air terrace on the top floor, and the historic house is a serious contender for a laid-back Italian break. When the house begins to feel too small, the garden stretches to one side, where you can let the kids roam free in and around the pool.
