Property Overview

Built in Georgian times, this recently restored former Garda Barracks is one of the oldest historic buildings in Rosscarberry and is now adapted to accommodate from two to twelve self-catering guests.

Situated in the centre of the village, guests are invited to take a step back in time and imagine hundreds of years of extraordinary times in “The Barracks". The atmosphere today is surely very different as comfort and relaxation are paramount in this lovely spacious property. A warm welcome awaits you plus a generous “welcome pack" to ease you into the start of your West Cork holiday by the sea.

What Awaits You Inside:

The Old Garda Barracks distinguishes itself as the only stone-fronted building in the Market Square. Through the imposing scarlet front door, and in keeping with its original features, the entrance hall leads to a traditional-style parlour on the left with a wood-burning stove set into its original fireplace. To the right of the entrance hall is a spacious twin-bedded room with an attractive open fire and original wooden floor. Both rooms overlook the Market Square.

The passageway then leads to the rear of the property featuring a utility area, a fully equipped kitchen (with all new modern appliances), and a spacious dining room (seats 12+). A patio door in the dining room opens onto a courtyard garden. The garden is safely enclosed with picnic table, barbecue and space for children to play.

The first floor is accessed from the stunning original staircase in the entrance hall to a family bathroom on the right at the back of the building with bath, shower, etc. and two double-bedrooms, one each side of the staircase to the front of the building overlooking the Market Square. There is a large landing with table, chair and reading material to relax in or write postcards home. Across from the family bathroom, to the rear of the house, is a newly built extension (adjacent to and connected to the main house) containing the master bedroom, one twin-bedded bedroom and a second bathroom with views of the garden courtyard.

The Old Garda Barrack's period features can be spotted in some ceiling details, cornicing, flooring and fireplaces. The owner has carefully paid attention to decorating with sensitivity to its historic past whilst ensuring every modern convenience is catered to. The bedrooms are particularly cosy and comfortable with old-fashioned touches such as lovely, colourful, hand-crocheted coverlets, cushions and rugs on old wooden floorboards. With such careful decoration and restoration, the integrity of the entire building has been preserved.

Great house in a perfect location in the village. Gail was really helpful throughout and we will be back!

Gail is a great host with a lot of very useful local information. She also provided a few useful food items which saved us a panic run to the shop. The house is ideally situated near some very good restaurants and pubs in the square. Londis is a 2 minute walk away. A great beach is about a twenty minute walk away. The house is spacious with a reasonable outside area. The amenities are basic but have pretty much everything you need.

Great house, loads of accomodation in an historic house right in the town centre. Lovely bar two doors up plenty of parking. Gail was very pleasant and helpful with sorting out the keys and answering additional questions. Would certainly recommend

Great location and a house full of character! Gail was a perfect host who looked after us well. We arrived in the evening and a fridge full of essentials was very welcome along with the cakes! More than enough towels and blankets made sure our stay was very comfortable. Thanks again Gail.

Our kids loved it and said they would love to go again. Location is unreal, also the way the host looked after us with a few treats and goodies to start our holiday. We will defo be back.
