This intimate home hides a lot of beautiful details. From the carefully selected statuettes to the view of a slice of the sky through the ceiling window, Monkey Light impressed us with a playful vision. This isn't a large space – but it doesn't feel cluttered or cramped, thanks to an open central living room, which incorporates a dining area. What we love most about this home, however, is the location. Only minutes away from Puerta del Sol, the surrounding streets are full of famous attractions and centuries-old architectural highlights.

Home truths:
* When we visited, the spotted a couple of marks on the wall by the TV
* This home can sleep a maximum of four guests, but the last two will need to settle for the sofa bed
* There are a few steps leading to the elevator – those with limited mobility or heavy suitcases take note
* Although the kitchen is well-equipped with appliances, it doesn't have the basic staples
