Forbes Magazine once voted Patmos as “the most idyllic place to live in Europe”. This is Greece in its most authentic form and steeped in history. Bustling Chora with its shops and thriving restaurant scene is reached by car in seven minutes. A swim in the turquoise waters of Epsimia Bay is a 150m hop away.

After a day of swimming in the sea, or exploring local Grikos, fire up the barbecue for a starlit dinner. It doesn't get much better than this.
