Our family’s stay was most enjoyable. It reminded me of visiting relatives in the country. Large old farmhouse with multiple private bedrooms with attached individual bathrooms and showers. The common areas were open and had an airy feel with multiple windows facing all directions. The accommodations were as expected of a Guesthouse which had a history of serving guests in the middle of farmland. While it may need some plaster work inside, the rooms were clean with fresh linens and towels, and ample blankets. When we stayed the winds were steady at 20-30mph with some gusts to 50mph. We stayed two nights and the blankets came in handy for our stay in late May. Being so close to both the Shannon and the Atlantic made the stay even closer to what is expected of a typical Wild Atlantic Way BnB. Blustery rains with glorious patches of sunshine.
We opted using the self-catering option as it gave us more time to plan our exploring or just sit and relax. There is no wi-fi but you do have cell signal. Didn’t care about the internet much. Thats not what you come out here for anyway.
The owner and proprietor, Mrs. Maura Keating, had left us a note to come in and make ourselves at home as she was running errands nearby. Soon she arrived to give us a proper greeting and enjoyed a pot of tea and scones. It was much appreciated after our long drive as we sat and chatted for quite awhile asking questions of the area, directions for dinner and a pint, groceries, shop, and sightsee. Maura was the most charming hostess, carefully going over the Guesthouse accommodations, logistics, and subtleties of the house. Yes, when it’s blustery outside the Guesthouse will speak to you by some creaks and moans, and the extra blankets came in handy. The steam heat worked well enough and there was plenty of hot water for showers. We had the entire Guesthouse to ourselves as it was still a bit early in the season. But you could easily imagine this was a destination of travelers and locals with fancy home cooked meals from the large kitchen of roast Christmas goose and turkey with all the fixings, large platters of Irish breakfasts feeding the two large dinning room tables of guests. But for our stay, it was quieter with our self-catering option enjoying hot tea, scones, jams, jelly, cereals, and some eggs and sausages.
