Cross the causeway at low tide to visit St. Mary s Lighthouse on its tiny, historic island. Play on the Blue Flag beach just outside the front door, walk, run or cycle south along the promenade towards nearby Tynemouth s Longsands Beach, historic Priory and Castle and vibrant nightlife, and north to Blyth's sandy beach. Explore bars, restaurants, and shops within walking distance, including a fine dining restaurant, champagne bar, and afternoon tea venue in the gloriously restored Spanish City (0.4 miles). Visit Tynemouth s bustling weekend market in the station, and a Metro ride takes you into Newcastle city centre. Walk from Collingwood s statue to enjoy the riverside promenade leading to North Shields, buy seafood in the historic Fish Quay, and enjoy the coffee and restaurant culture.
