House in Cumbria: Cumbria

The Victorian townhouse, in the bustling market town of Keswick, sleeps four guests and is perfect for those who enjoy the great outdoors. You ll have an endless supply of walks in the surrounding area, from challenging fell climbs to peaceful lakeside strolls. If you really want to get the legs going, take on Scafell Pike (13 miles), England s highest mountain. Alternatively, the gentle ascent to the top of Catbells (4 miles) is perfect for a more relaxing walk, and the views are no less impressive. You can t stay in Keswick without getting out on Derwentwater. Board one of the launches and cruise from jetty to jetty, hopping on and off for a picnic, waterfall walk or spot of afternoon tea. This spacious, light and bright property is accessible from both the front and the rear. From the front entrance, you ll walk into a beautiful vestibule, where you ll find ample room to hang your coats and store shoes (if you ve got muddy boots, please enter via the rear, where there s a handy utility/boot room). The house oozes with character, with gorgeous floor tiles, ceiling roses and sash windows. Moving into the lounge, you ll be met with high ceilings, an elegant chandelier and stylish decor, offset with flashes of bright green. There are two comfortable sofas and an armchair to curl up on after a day of exploring, in front of the cosy wood burner. Choose a film from the extensive DVD collection or listen to music on the wireless Bluetooth speaker. The striking kitchen is modern and extremely functional, with a chic breakfast bar and everything you need to prepare a tasty meal, including two electric ovens, gas hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and dishwasher. There s also a Nespresso coffee machine, to kick start your day. The adjoining dining room, like the kitchen, has underfloor heating to create a warm and cosy environment. Here, there s a dining table to seat four to enjoy evenings of laughter and great food together. The dining room leads to the handy utility room, where there s a separate WC as well as a washing machine, tumble dryer and room to store muddy walking gear. Upstairs, there are two elegant king size bedrooms with carefully chosen fabrics and furnishings to complement the style of the property. Both rooms have blackout blinds, to ensure a great night s sleep. One of the bedrooms has an en suite bathroom with a walk in rainfall shower and WC. There is also a family bathroom on this floor, again with a walk in rainfall shower and WC, as well as a gorgeous free standing bath perfect for a long soak after a tiring fell walk. The outdoor area is accessed via the utility room. The paved courtyard has a large picnic style bench, so you can catch the last of the evening sun over a glass of wine or some pre dinner nibbles. Parking is usually available on the roadside outside the property or on the neighbouring roads.
