The Blue Flag-awarded West Cliff Beach is only a five-minute stroll away, making dips in the sea and walks along the beachfront promenade a must-do. Or, climb the 199 Steps and admire the views from Whitby Abbey – also easily reached on foot – followed by a hearty meal at one of the traditional pubs on your doorstep.

It's hard to beat the location, but we like this home's characterful-filled spaces, too. Spread across four levels, each floor has cosy nooks where you can gather together and relax. Take your pick – sprawl out on the blue velvet sofa for a movie night, rustle up lunch in the sage-coloured kitchen or work from home at the industrial-style dining table. Fancy a little privacy? Both bedrooms are equal parts charming and comfortable, while the bathroom boasts a Victorian clawfoot tub – just the ticket after a trek along the Cleveland Way.

*Storage space is minimal here and there are no wardrobes, so we'd recommend packing light
