Dance the Sirtaki: Crete

Perched on the northern coast of Crete, this villa has a glorious view of the glistening Aegean Sea and plenty of ways to enjoy it. Out through the large glass doors, there's a swimming pool with a shallower section for children that looks out over this panorama, as well as a selection of loungers, sofas and an alfresco dining table.

Inside, the ground level is minimalist in spirit thanks to the sleek white kitchen, glass-fronted fireplace and modern teak furniture. Upstairs, the bedrooms are a little more characterful, especially the master with the four-poster bed. All three sleeping quarters have direct access to the balcony, so you can feel the sunshine on your face seconds after you wake up.

The closest village is Kokkino Chorio, which will be recognisable to anybody who has seen the 1964 film Zorba the Greek, as this was where many of the scenes were shot. A drive of five minutes will get you to a glass-blowing factory where you can watch demonstrations, and the same amount of time will also get you to Koutalas Beach.
