Cottage in Northumberland: Northumberland

This traditional cottage lies in the hamlet of Middleton, near the village of Bamburgh, on the breathtaking Northumberland coast. You can see the spectacular views of the Holy Island of Lindisfarne from the property and you can be at the causeway within 10 easy minutes drive from here. Just a mile away is the village of Belford with a local well equipped Co Op store, local history museum, several pubs, fish & chip shop and Sunnyhills Farm shop with popular restaurant. The cottage lies between the bustling market town of Alnwick, with its famous castle and gardens, and the historic border town of Berwick upon Tweed. You will also be close to the Cheviot Hills and the historic St. Cuthbert's Way pilgrimage route; including St. Cuthbert's Cave, ideal for truly amazing walks and stunning scenery. The popular seaside and country villages of Seahouses, Beadnell, Low Newton, Craster and Wooler are all within easy each. The region has so much to offer in terms of history, outdoor activities and traditional sea side and market towns. Water sports enthusiasts, historians, walkers, cyclists, explorers, shoppers, food lovers and families will be able to create a fantastic itinerary with the cottage as an ideally located and cosy base. Look up to the sky on a clear night in the garden and appreciate the stars shining brightly in the famous Northumberland dark skies. The aurora borealis can often be seen from here and a trip to the Kielder Observatory is a breath taking experience. On entering this welcoming home follow the hallway to find a cosy lounge, with plenty of comfortable seating and a feature stone built fireplace housing a traditional wood burner (with unlimited logs provided). There is also a Smart TV making this an ideal space to relax in at the end of a wonderful day, along with a variety of children and adult books, games and jigsaws to ensure everyone is kept entertained. Heading into the charming stone flagged kitchen/diner, you will find a lovely dining area with a farmhouse style table with bench seating. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you will need, including a Smeg double oven and induction hob, a large, retro style fridge/freezer, dishwasher, microwave and toaster. There is a small utility space off the kitchen with a washing machine and tumble dryer. Exploring the ground floor further, you will find the small prettily furnished single bedroom with views of the garden and countryside. There is also a shower room with a walk in shower with a grab rail and WC. Heading upstairs you will find two further cosy bedrooms. The master bedroom has a king size bed and glorious views towards the coast and Holy Island. Use the spotting scope perfectly placed on the window sill to take in the magnificent views of the area; you can even spot people walking up the steps of the castle on Holy Island, and perhaps a seal or two! This bedroom has a well equipped, fully tiled en suite bathroom with a double headed shower over the bath and a WC. The delightful third bedroom has 2 zip and link single beds, ideal for children, or these can be made up as a super king size bed on request and with an en suite WC. This bedroom offers lovely woodland views. Stepping outside, you will find an enclosed lawn garden with a stone flagged patio area which affords excellent views of the countryside and beyond. There is a further enclosed patio area outside the back door, along with the log store and secure padlocked storage for bikes and other kit. Here you find a dog wash area, with tethers and a hose which can be connected to the warm outside tap. Ideal for washing off sand and mud from dogs, boots and kit. You will also find a great log cabin style Games Room, complete with pool table, table tennis, table football, dart board and an iPod dock, with great views and electric heating. There is ample off road parking available for two cars inside the gated driveway. There are several steps up to the back door and one small step, plus the threshold to enter the front door. Because of the cottage style rooms and narrow bedroom doors, this cottage is not wheel chair friendly. Please note: Up to four dogs are very welcome but please note no dogs are allowed upstairs or on the beds please. Please bring your own dog beds and plenty of blankets to protect the sofa. Dog mess must be removed from the garden daily and at the end of your stay. There is a bus route running past the cottage, with bus stops within a 30 second walk. Buses go south to Alnwick and Newcastle, and north to Holy Island and Berwick upon Tweed.
