It's genuinely cosy and comfortable and the original artwork on the walls gives it a distinctly homey vibe. Two sweet balconies look out onto the typically graffitied streets of trendy Malasaña neighbourhood, and a tonne of quirky cafes, bakeries, restaurants and vintage shops are all close by. Ideal for a younger crowd, it's a ten-minute walk to central Gran Via, and fifteen to the busy Puerta del Sol.

*Access to this apartment is by stairs only – not suitable for wheelchair users

*Malasaña is brilliantly vibrant area caked in graffiti – those looking for something a bit cleaner and more conservative should look elsewhere

*We're admittedly quite a picky bunch but the provision of toilet paper and complimentary toiletries is not as generous as we would want it to be

*We couldn't locate any coffee or tea bags – you'll either have to stock up yourself or head to a nearby cafe in the morning to get your caffeine fix

* The nature of the hot water supply means that it can run after several consecutive showers

* Three guests can sleep here if one of you takes the sofa bed in the living room
