This beautifully designed contemporary villa has graced the pages of architectural magazines for its clean lines and modern minimalism. Designed by Greek architect Marina Birdmiri, the home uses its stunning hillside setting and plenty of natural materials to sit in harmony with the surrounding landscape.

The villa flows from room to room, but it's not the vast open-plan space that you might expect. This sense of separation between the different areas is welcome while at the same time ensuring the home is perfectly set up for socialising. Bifold doors and large windows frame the panoramic views outside, allowing you to pad out to the pool for relaxing days under the sun listening to music. If you need some time to yourself, you'll find paths leading through the olive trees to shaded spots where you can settle down with a book and your own thoughts for company.

Just a few kilometres outside the former fishing village of Elounda – here, you'll find pretty beaches, crystal-clear water and a nice variety of bars and restaurants. However, it's certainly not for those looking for a party. From here, catch a boat over to Spinalonga island, a former leper colony with a fascinating and harrowing history.
