Area
Ulverston's central street is paved with cobblestones, and the town itself has a historic feel. It has a wide variety of unique stores, cafes, and bars serving real ale by the fire. There is a wide variety of restaurants serving everything from gourmet cuisine to standard pub fare. Throughout the summer, Ulverston hosts a variety of festivals, from a flag-raising and walking festival to an art and music festival, and in late November, the town hosts the world-famous Dickensian Christmas festival. In addition to being the place where Stan Laurel was born, it also holds the record for the largest foam pie fight in the world. Great walks in scenic countryside with views of Morecambe Bay and the southern Lake District can be found all around the city. The deepest, widest, and shortest canal in the world can be found here, and it makes for a great afternoon stroll with a pub and bay views at its conclusion. Similarly, it's not hard to get to any of the National Park's sights. Furness Coast is known for its sandy beaches and excellent birdwatching. South Lakes Wild Animal Park, Lakes Windermere and Coniston, and the ever-popular Birkrigg Common, which offers breathtaking views of Morecambe Bay, are all within easy driving distance and perfect for a family outing.

Region
Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.
