This idyllic listed property dates back to 1853 when it was added to the Annes Grove House. Designed in Gothic style, the lodge stands in strong contrast to the sober Queen Anne Classicism of the nearby country house.
Situated on the road between Doneraile and Castletownroche the Annes Grove House has long been charming visitors from all over the world. Originally known as Ballyhimock, the main house was originally an estate belonging to the Grove family. During the latter part of the 18th century, it became the property of the Hon Arthur Grove Annesley, whose descendants still live there. The estate boasts one of Ireland's best gardens, and while privately owned, this can however still be visited by appointment during the summer months.
This idyllic miniature medieval castle is a two-stage square tower containing one room on each floor. The double bedroom at the first-floor level is accessible from the ground floor parlour by way of a battlemented polygonal stair turret. The main living room has a wide, deep hearth with a wood-burning stove. The property also features a small kitchen, a bathroom with shower over half-hip bath, and a private small garden for truly romantic al-fresco summer dining.
The lodge is a listed building, beautifully restored by the Irish Landmark Fund, and currently available as self-catering for a truly unforgettable stay in the south of Ireland.

My husband, our dog, and I decided to spend my birthday weekend at Anne’s Grove on a whim, and it was amazing.
Upon arrival, Theresa (our host) gave us a quick tour of the place, filling us in on the functional stuff (where to find pots and pans, etc), as well as the history of the place.
From there, it was long walks around the grounds, evenings spent reading, talking, and stoking the fire, and meals for two.
It really was everything, and we look forward to coming back!

"Silver wedding anniversary surprise"
I wish I had a picture of her face when my wife got out of the car and saw where we were staying. She was completely blown away and when we were shown around the inside she was even more impressed. Excellent facilities. We were short of nothing in the kitchen and the chocolate biscuits were a nice touch. Bathroom is huge. Thanks for the loan of a OS map - came in very handy for our walk on day 2. Perfect venue if you are looking for somewhere different - thinking about a lighthouse keepers cottage for next year

We enjoyed our two nights immensely in the 19th century gatehouse. A special thanks to our "hostess" Theresa who made us very welcome and provided full explanation of local amenities and places to visit. Annes Grove itself is located in very peaceful surroundings and the absence of modern distractions of TV and WiFi added to our experience of quiet and solitude. We particularly enjoyed our visit to Doneraile Park and also the local towns of Mallow and Fermoy.

"A magical place" We loved our stay at Annes Grove. It was just two days but two days we will always remember. We had a lovely welcome from Theresa who gave a lot of tips on the best places to visit. The little castle was cosy and comfortable and early morning was particularly magical. The weather stayed fine which was a big help! We had our dog with us and would like to commend the Landmark Trust for allowing visitors to bring their dogs to many of their properties. It is something you should highlight more. We had a wonderful time and may come back again.

"What can we say, absolutely magical. We would happily stay here for another week or two if that was possible. This place is beautiful and so full of happiness. I can safely say that this has by far been my favourite little trip away and for once I am not longing for my own bed!"
