A perfect blue diamond has been sold for a record-breaking $48.4 Million dollars. Hong Kong business magnate, Joseph Lau, reportedly bought the stone for his 7-year old daughter Josephine. Described by the GIA as "internally flawless," and a "rare wonder", 'Blue Moon' has gained global media coverage this week.
One of the largest known fancy vivid blue diamonds, the 'Blue Moon' was the dazzling centrepiece of Sotheby's November auction in Geneva.
The exquisite stone weighing 12.03 carats, boasts internally flawless clarity and truly outstanding colour. The prior auction record for any diamond was held by 'The Graff Pink' (24.78 carats), which sold for US$46.2 million at Sotheby's Geneva in 2010.
