Surroundings Estrela Basilica or Royal Basilica and Convent of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, is a basilica and ancient Carmelite convent in late baroque and neoclassical style. Construction started in 1779 and the basilica was finished in 1790. The Estrela Basilica was the first church in the world dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
The Estrela Garden was created in the mid-nineteenth century, in front of the Basilica, in the style of English gardens, of romantic inspiration.
