Husband-and-wife team Marcus and Kate founded Restaurant 5 North Street in the chocolate box Cotswolds town of Winchcombe.
Marcus, or 'Gus', as he's known to friends, had previously earned three separate Michelin stars at restaurants in the region. He decided to go it alone so as to give full reign to his own creative gifts.
Inspired by such classic restaurants as Shaun Hill's former Merchant House, he created an informal dining room, devoid of pretence and fuss.
Sensational flavours are served in his unstuffy dining room in a variety of menus, from lunch through to a la carte dinner and degustation.
Under Gus's expert tutelage, flavours sing. Dishes are presented in forms that are as pretty as a picture.
His exceptional contacts with the region's finest producers enable him to cook with the seasons, bringing the best of local food and drink to the table.
Having learned from great chefs, like Michel Roux Snr, Gus offers cuisine with enormous finesse. Canapes are a riot of flavour, mains are robust and underpinned by starry cooking while dreamy desserts live long in the memory.
