Strand House: Derry

Strand House is a purpose-built bed and breakfast that opened its doors in 2004.

The B&B has retained its 5-star Northern Ireland Tourism Board status over the years, providing guests with a luxurious, relaxed and homely experience. We have welcomed guests from around the world and have had press including The Times UK newspaper give us their seal of approval.

Each of our rooms has been designed and decorated to give guests the fullest Northern Ireland experience, even going as far as naming bedrooms after famous local highlights including The Causeway, Links and The Dunluce.

In addition to our bedrooms, we have a downstairs lounge where guests can relax after a day of sightseeing or golfing, or our 1st-floor library for some reading and views out to the nearby Strand.

As you might have already gathered, food is an important part of the Strand House experience, whether it’s a homemade treat with tea or coffee on arrival or our much-talked-about breakfast.

We are also on hand to make your stay the most comfortable and enjoyable. From booking restaurants or golf tee-times; leaving a surprise gift for a special someone in your bedroom; providing a laundry service; or giving guests hints and tips on the local area.

"Gold plated!"
A wonderful 24 hours at the Strand. Delicious breakfast, superb rooms and lovely company! Ernestine is such a lovely host. She had to contend with 8 middle aged Englishmen! Good effort. We'll be back...Highly recommended.

"Five Star rating may understate this beautiful B&B"
A large and well maintained B&B, beautiful bedrooms, and an incredible breakfast with selections for even the most discriminating taste. But perhaps the best part are the owners themselves, Tom and Ernestine go well beyond any expectations to welcome guests and make their stay, and visit, as nice as it can be. Our first night dinner reservations were cancelled by the respective restaurant and Tom and Ernestine immediately became engaged to make things right ….. Tom ended up walking us over to his golf club to ensure that we had a wonderful dinner and were taken care of

"Memorable night away with the girls!"
I cannot recommend this luxurious 5 star Bed and Breakfast highly enough. Enjoyed a blissful night away with a few friends. Ernestine and Tom ensured we had the perfect stay in every way. Just when we thought it couldn't get any better the breakfast was outstanding too! It's well located just a short walk to Harry's Shack and the beach.

"Beautiful Bed and Breakfast, very professionally run"
This is a large B and B set on a residential road, consisting mainly of holiday/second homes, so road quiet out of season. The whole place immaculately and tastefully decorated. Several lounge areas for guests, including a reading area with chaise lounge upstairs! Made me want to go home and immediately decorate my house, I was so impressed with the decor!
Ernestine and Tom are the consummate hosts. The breakfast choice was better than you get in most 5* hotels, and Ernestine more than happy to adapt to anyone's individual tastes. When the house was full, Ernestine was unflappable and the breakfasts kept coming out. The hardest thing was choosing what to have every morning (we stayed 5 nights), basically I wanted everything on the menu! Many places within walking distance to eat for dinner (you need to be reasonably fit though). Do stay here, it's in a great position for exploring many of the wonderful sights in N Ireland. You won't regret it!

"Excellent for Golfers"
The Strand House was a perfect location and accommodation for 8 golfers who were playing Royal Portrush GC and Portstewart GC. The facility was clean and comfortable. Most importantly our hosts Ernestine and Tom were engaging, friendly and very helpful in booking cabs and local restaurants. Breakfast was always a treat thanks to a nice variety of choices and a lot of interesting banter with Ernestine. Would highly recommend this facility to adults traveling to the Portstewart area in Northern Ireland!
