Area The conservation village of Winster is situated within the Peak District National Park and is an extremely pretty place with a charming 17th century market house at its centre and other imposing 18th century houses, nearly all three storeys, on its three main streets - Main Street, East Bank and West Bank.
Region The ultimate in “year-round” appeal, the Peak District offers countryside, picturesque villages and magnificent scenery. It touches upon six counties and encloses 555 square miles of open moorland, flowing rivers, and wooded dales.
Amenities Gas central heating and wood burning stove. Electric AGA, double oven, electric hob, microwave, fridge, fridge/freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher, TV in lounge with Freeview compatible with chromecast and firestick, DVD, CD/radio, WiFi, TV's throughout the house, selection of books, games, toys and DVDs. Fuel, power and starter pack for fire inc. in rent. Bed linen and towels inc. in rent. Cot and highchair available. Parking for 5 cars - 3 cars in front of the building and 2 on the driveway to the side of the building. Lockable bike storage. Enclosed, lawned courtyard garden with patios, furniture and BBQ area with two BBQs available. Summerhouse. Two well-behaved dogs welcome. Sorry, no smoking. Shop and pub 1 min walk. Note: Additional services such as a private chef, welcome pack, daily housekeeping and outdoor activities are available via separate agreement with the owner. Please Note: This property has a good housekeeping bond of £400. Please note: The charging of any electric vehicle is not permitted at this property. This property has a 3 night minimum stay.
Ideal location for visiting the south Peak District. Very spacious with comfortable bedrooms and a nice kitchen ( though it would be better to ditch the AGA for a decent oven). A couple of downsides are the parking and the front/dining room. The parking outside the front means negotiating a very narrow gate followed by a sharp turn. Only suitable for small/medium cars. We also found during our stay that we were blocked in twice by cars parking in front of the gates, we started to park one of the cars here to avoid this. The front room is very dark, next to no natural light and poor artificial lighting. We ate in the conservatory room as the dining room was too dark. It was a pleasant stay with nice outside space and the local shop is great, but I wouldn't stay here again.

This is a really impressive place. Situated in the centre of Winster Village it is perfectly placed for all the attractions in the South end of the Peak District. A village shop almost next door a very friendly pub across the road the village is well served. The accommodation inside the hall is spacious and very well maintained. Outside space is also good and our 11 year old grandson loved playing football in the walled garden. Three generations made up our party of 12 plus our small dog and all agreed this was a very special place for a family get together. Marvelous.

Booked this house as it was equidistant for all the family. With plenty of bedrooms plus multiple bed configurations, this house easily accommodated our group of 14 plus dog. We spent most of our time either in the dining room, the stove providing a cosy atmosphere, or the comfortable lounge on the first floor. The kitchen was well equipped with good quality crockery and glassware and the combination of the aga plus two electric ovens made cooking the three course dinner on the Saturday night a doddle. Beware though if you are not familiar with cooking on an aga. The oven gloves provided are adequate for using the electric ovens but too flimsy and thin to protect against the high temperatures of the aga. We used the felt gloves from the stove to avoid any nasty burns! The house was immaculately clean with a small range of toiletries in the bathrooms and plenty of towels. The fixtures and fittings are of a high standard and all the bedrooms are individually decorated and finished with complimentary cushions and throws. It wasn’t initially obvious from looking at the layout plans but the ground floor bedroom is accessed from the dining room and the bathroom that services this room is located adjacent to the bedroom but accessed from an inner hall off the dining room. This meant the occupants had to pass through the dnining room to reach their bathroom in the mornings. We were all family so it was amusing to see Grandad passing through in his pyjamas, but this may not be quite so funny if you were not related. It’s a shame because this is one of the nicest rooms with a sitting area and fireplace. Lastly, the drive immediately in front of the hall is the off road parking area for 5 cars. Our party consisted of two 4x4s plus a saloon car and, as there were cars parked on the road and the gates are very narrow, we only managed to get the saloon onto the drive, the angles being too tight. It wasn’t too much of a problem as there were spaces on the road all weekend although it was a bit of a palaver upon arrival, ferrying all our stuff across the road. On the whole we had a great weekend. Thank you to the housekeeper for our welcome gifts. A silver tray was on the dining room table with a bottle of fizz, a balloon and a delicious carrot cake; a nice touch as it was a birthday celebration.

Booked this amazing house for a Golden Wedding celebration and was not disappointed. It is beautifully appointed with plenty of space for all generations and if you are lucky enough to visit in the summer, then the garden and outside space is an added bonus. Well worth the money.

After being greeted with a freshly baked lemon drizzle cake which was delicious and a bottle of prosecco on the dinning table - We Spent a lovely long weekend (Fri 23/02 to Mon 26/02) here with my brothers, sisters and in-laws, a total of 12 adults. This was For a family reunion without our grown up children. My sister in-law Clare discovered the property on line and made all of the booking. The criteria in her choice was the ability of Winster Hall to accommodate all the couples with comfort and convenience for the differing needs including playing music in one room, watching TV in another. We spent every meal time together which was a cooked breakfast every morning and great Dinner parties in the evening’s. All the couples were in charge of various meal times. Mine was to cook a large Turkey roast dinner and I can honestly say the kitchen was well equipped from the prep stage to placing the food into the beautiful serving dishes on to the grand dinning table. We visited the local areas, Matlock, Matlock Bath and Bakewell which was beautiful. I would definitely return to Winster Hall with family again or friends. Thank you. X

Ample accommodation and bathrooms for the 12 of us (7 adults, 5 children), large kitchen, huge dining room and a sitting room where we could all spread out and do our own thing. Conservatory was good for the dogs as was the enclosed garden. Near to lots of good attractions - Chatsworth, Haddon Hall, Bakewell, Matlock Bath etc. Good local walks and pubs. Nearby pub found room for all of us at short notice for Sunday lunch, but it does have quirky opening hours!

Overall, this traditional, stylish, mini-mansion worked very well indeed. We were a party of 7 couples, staying 3 nights. The lounge, kitchen and dining room all allow for convivial gathering. There were a couple of slight downsides to the 2nd floor accommodation: the 'Jack & Jill' bathroom needs a soundproof door to the adjoining bedroom, and the stowaway bed in the small bedroom is only suitable for someone up to 5'6". In warm weather the garden and courtyard would be superb for a bbq/garden party. Winster is a lovely village with a good pub and shop very close by; the latter sold everything we needed except for replacement tea-lights for the dining table.

A lovely house which was beautifully presented and well equipped. It is in a lovely location with a fantastic local shop and pubs and great walking from the doorstep. It was perfect for a group as there are large enough areas inside and out to sit or eat together whilst being spacious enough not to feel on top of one another.

The bedrooms were amazing with four poster beds in many rooms. The furniture was of a high standard. It seemed they had decorated and furnished in accord with the period of the hall. There was plenty of room for all of us and sufficient of everything. Winster Hall is ideally situated for walking with a pub a stroll away.

The standards at Winster Hall are excellent. In particular the beds were extremely comfortable and the house was prepared to our specifications. Winster village was delightful and it was a huge bonus having a village shop just a few doors away. Communication with the owner was very good.

Spent a long weekend (Fri-Mon) here with my extended family, a total of 17 people with ages ranging from 82 years to 14 months, to celebrate my birthday. My wife discovered the property on line and made all of the booking arrangements which, according to her, was a very smooth process with good communications from the owners. Her choice was made on the basis of Winster's relatively central location for the guests who were travelling from NW and NE England, and from the East Mids. The other main criteria in her choice was the ability of Winster Hall to accommodate our extended family in a way that offered comfort and convenience for the differing needs of our respective families. So, for example, the young adults had a room to themselves, as did the children, while my sister and her husband shared their room with their baby son and young daughter. In addition to the privacy that the room layouts could offer, the large sitting room and dining room both offered sufficient space to accommodate all 17 of us. In fact the only times that all of us were in the same room at the same time was for meals: the children spent most of their time playing hide & seek in the hall, while the adults were able to make use of the very good wifi connection or the 50" television with access to Freeview and/or a DVD player. Due to the time of year, and the weather conditions, I can't offer any insight into the grounds, but can reassure potential visitors who are thinking of staying in colder weather that the Hall's central heating system is very efficient and can be supplemented by a gas fire in the sitting room and a log burner in the dining room. The Aga keeps the kitchen warm, but the conservatory and ground floor bedrooms were relatively chilly compared to the rest of the house. The owners very thoughtfully provide towels for all of the guests, as well as a selection of DVDs and board games. The village store, which is a 30 secs walk from the house, provides everything you'd expect it to, including logs for the fire.

A large 17th century village country house made our celebration of a special birthday perfect. Family came from all over England and all commented on the house, village and surrounding area. Ages ranged from 8 months to 70 years and the house provided perfect flexibility.

The house itself was faultless, with plenty of room to spread our family of 13. We have been taking a family holiday each year for twenty years now and I can honestly say this was the best house ever. Thank you for the care that has been taken and the attention to detail.

We all appreciated staying in a grand building like this and we particularly enjoyed having a meal one evening for 17 people at that lovely dining table. On that occasion we used both the Aga and the double oven to do the cooking, which was useful. We all enjoyed having breakfast in the conservatory and hardly used the dining room.

The house was immaculate on arrival and very impressive. We had 11 adults, 5 babies under 7 months old, a 1 year old and a 4 year old - this house was large enough to fit all these people (plus travel cots!) without us all getting under each other's feet. The kitchen was large enough to cook huge meals. We loved the conservatory and the sun house. The walled garden space was perfect and private - the 4 year old was safe to explore. The owners had left a detailed info pack and maps/leaflets for things to do in the area.

The property was the perfect size and layout for all the family (including a toddler and a dog). The location was great too - shops/pubs nice and close but still close to the amazing countryside. We all had a fantastic time and hope to return next year.
