There's so much to love about this freshly renovated historic home, that it's hard to know quite where to start. But as it's probably the leading reason visitors flock to this corner of the Dalmatian coast, we'll start with the view. Set high above the Old Town, in the most sought-after part of Dubrovnik, it looks out over that postcard-perfect vista – just as it has for centuries. If its old stone walls could talk, it could tell us tales of this dramatic city, reaching back to the Renaissance.

Today, the interior has been respectfully brought up to 21st Century expectations, with smart, neutral decor and a mix of contemporary and classical furnishings giving it a stylish, sophisticated look. Bright and comfortable, the living and dining space is a sociable room with incredible views. There's a fully equipped kitchen if you're cooking at home and a wine cellar in the basement, or you can cook in the traditional summer method – outside on the barbecue.

And while the courtyard garden and your private pool are no doubt the stars of the show here, we found ourselves falling in love with the little balcony belonging to the master bedroom on the top floor. We dare you to find a better view of this UNESCO city anywhere. Just a short walk to the nearest pebble beach and a short drive into the city centre, it's a sensational home in an enviable location.
