This former olive mill, set in the historic coastal town of Tavira, has undergone quite the transformation in recent times – and we couldn’t love it more. Expertly reimagined into a three-storey townhouse, polished marble, parquet flooring, and contemporary interiors fuse together to glorious effect.
An excellent choice for friends or extended family sharing, each bedroom sits on its own floor with an en-suite bathroom for a little extra privacy. And you’re all sorted if you plan to work, with a dedicated desk tucked away in a quiet corner on the top floor.
Downstairs, the free-flowing living space leading out onto a charming private courtyard with views of the neighbouring church is made for socialising. Get together for a sunny alfresco breakfast of expressos and Pastel de Natas on the veranda, then pad over to the shared terraces for a dip in that sparkling pool surrounded by tumbling bougainvillaea and fragrant citrus trees.
When it’s time for a dose of sea air and culture, Tavira has got it in spades. Lose yourself to its warren of cobblestone streets on either side of the Rio Gilão dotted with cafes and restaurants, and shady squares. Or hop on the ferry bound for the coast – the unspoilt, golden shores of Ilha de Tavira are everything you’ve been daydreaming of.
