Area Ulverston's central street is paved with cobblestones, and the town itself has a historic feel. It has many unique stores, cafes, and pubs serving up real fires and a variety of brews. From five-star restaurants to neighbourhood pubs, there is truly something for every palate. Ulverston is also well-known as a festival town, hosting a variety of events throughout the summer (including flag and walking festivals, as well as art and music festivals, and the world-famous Dickensian Christmas festival in late November). Stan Laurel was born there, and the town holds the record for the largest foam pie fight in the world, so you can imagine it's a pretty fun place to visit. It is possible to take pleasant strolls in the scenic countryside around Morecambe Bay and the southern Lake District. Featuring the world's deepest, widest, and shortest canal, this area is perfect for a leisurely stroll in the afternoon, thanks to the nearby pub and beautiful views of the bay. It's also easy to get to any of the National Park's sights. Beaches and excellent birdwatching can both be found along the Furness Coast. Popular Birkrigg Common, which offers breathtaking views of Morecambe Bay, is also close by, as is the South Lakes Wild Animal Park and Lakes Windermere and Coniston.
Region Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.
