Chiado is a hotspot for Portuguese architectural grandeur, artistic flair and Old-World glamour, which means our expectations were high when we heard an architect had recently refurbished the building that homes Sterling Bronze. We weren't disappointed either – restoring the traditional azulejos and gaiolas pombalinas (exposed beams), and adding original art is just the tip of the iceberg – the bare bones of this home have been optimised and modernised to create a unique apartment that effortlessly marries the old and the new. While the statement pieces add interest and heaps of rustic charm, it's a homely spot too, with cosy bedrooms made up of neutral tones and comfy throws. Both come accompanied with en-suite marble bathrooms for an added level of luxury, while those keeping one eye on work during their stay will find the stylish study areas a delight. But, perhaps the star of the show is however the moment you step out onto your beautifully appointed balcony with your morning coffee and pastel de nata, watching the activity of the stoned enclave and its lively locale below.
Home truths: *We spotted two small stains on the dining table – but that's just us nitpicking
*There's a minibar in this home with additional charges for the drinks inside
*The workspaces are in the bedrooms, rather than communal areas
*There's no room for seating on the balcony
