There's plenty of traditional character inside this Grade II-listed cottage dating back to the 1580s. Once part of the village's post office, it now serves as a restful retreat just three miles from Bakewell. Summer afternoons are best spent in the two south-facing gardens, while the log burner in the lounge is a delight come wintertime. We love the two clawfoot tubs – they're just the ticket after a hike through the Peak District. As there isn't enough space in the living room for all eight guests to sit comfortably, we think this home is better for six – and due to its three levels, it won't suit those who have trouble with stairs.
Home truths: *Set over three floors with no internal lift, this home isn't suitable for guests with limited mobility *The living area is smaller than it appears, and there isn't enough comfy seating for all eight guests *Since the photoshoot, the fourth bedroom has been updated from bunk beds to a double *Your host can provide a free travel cot, high chair and stairgate on request *There isn't a welcome basket, but your host provides a starter supply of tea, coffee, sugar, milk and other condiments *We suggest hiring a car in this location, especially if you plan to explore the Peak District – there's private parking for two cars *The dining table doubles up as a laptop-friendly workspace *Hen and stag parties are not allowed here
