Luxury Self Catering Accomodation in Rural Co Down, Northern Ireland
Scion Hill Gate Lodge is situated at the top of a long tree lined avenue leading to the Gentleman's Residence, Scion Hill. Built in 1840 for George Waugh a JP it served as a Porters Lodge for the main house. It is a listed building.
In 2010, Scion Hills Owners, David amd Esther Ervin decided it was time to restore it and offer it as Self Catering Accommodation.
They have done this by completely renovating the original building while adding an extensive new wing. This means that although the Gatelodge retains many of its original features, including High Ceilings, it also provides all those modern luxuries we have come to expect.
The accommodation is all on one level so there are no steps or trip hazards to negotiate.
There are two large Double Bedrooms, one with an ensuite wetroom/bathroom and the other with its own bathroom across the hallway. All bedding and towels are supplied.
There is a spacious entrance hall where you will find a selection of games and books for your enjoyment.
The kitchen and utility room are well furnished with all mod cons. There is a Dishwasher, Washing Machine, Tumble Dryer, Fridge Freezer, Oven, Hob and Microwave.
The cosy living room has comfortable sofas for you to curl up on. There is a wood burning stove, should you require a fire. All fuel can be delivered to you as required.
Outside, the views from the front of the Gatelodge are spectacular. There are many local Golf Courses and places to fish. In addition the Gatelodge is handy for all the major shopping towns.
There are also many opportunities for Hillwalking on your doorstep including of course the Dromara and Mourne Mountains.
The Gatelodge has a private entrance and parking to one side.
Stayed again at Scion Oil Gate Lodge. Great place to stay. Our host Esther couldn't be more helpful and made sure we even had some milk for a cup of tea after our journey. The lodge is clean and well equipped for a couple of small family, and its dog friendly too! Highly recommended for those wanting to get away to the countryside for a few days or longer.

"Couldn't have been better for us" We wanted a high quality place that provided us with much needed rest and relaxation but was still located conveniently for travelling to Belfast and the surrounding area. Scionhill Gatelodge was a perfect choice. Esther was a great host and was only a 'phone call away if we needed anything. Esther also very kindly allowed our dog to stay. We intend to visit Northern Ireland as frequently as we can and won't hesitate in making Scionhill Gatelodge our first choice. We have already recommended it to relatives who are visiting Northern Ireland.

"Perfect cottage in the Irish countryside" We were pleasantly surprised with the cottage and how spacious, clean and well equipped and decorated it was, on top of which it's in a beautiful part of the Irish countryside, with great views, isolated from all noise (and at the same time not far from Belfast), environmentally-minded and with a nice picnic table outside. Everything was perfect. Esther is doing a fantastic job with this cottage; I'll rent it again in my next trip to Ireland and will recommend it to my friends.

"Exceptional" Beautiful, characterful Gate Lodge with spectacular views. Very clean and comfortable throughout, made a great base being only 30 mins from Belfast, 20 mins from Lisburn and 40 mins from Newry. We stayed for two nights. Esther was extremely helpful and accommodating and had even left a fresh carton of milk and some preserves in the fridge in advance of our arrival. and I would highly recommend Scion Hill Gate Lodge as a base to explore the region. Great alternative for anyone with a family over local hotels.
