Area Settled in the breath-taking Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is the charming village of Wye which lies between Ashford and Canterbury. The charming village has historic roots as an important communication centre thanks to the ford across the River Great Stour which connected ancient trackway across the North Downs, it was once home to a popular racecourse and is overlooked by the Wye Downs area of chalk downland and woodland. It was even recognised, in 2013, as the third best place to live in the whole of the UK. Today the village has a bi-monthly farmers market by The Green selling local produce and an interesting array of listed buildings. It lies close to Ashford where guests can pick up all their necessities at the local supermarket before touring the spectacular halls of the Jacobean Godinton House and Gardens or refuelling at The New Fox Inn. The famous, historic cathedral city of Canterbury is also easily accessible by a scenic drive through the AONB; immerse yourself in the past here by touring the Roman Museum, St Augustine’s Abbey, the impressive Westgate Towers Museum, and viewpoint which boasts a unique escape room inside and the Norman-built Canterbury Cathedral.
