Our 5-star vacation rental is located directly on the lakeshore of the world-famous Lakes of Killarney and is now available for unforgettable luxury holidays. There are many private paths and walks on the 100 acres estate, and the remaining land is an active farm. The Historic Killarney mansion boasts wonderfully spacious living areas with high ceilings and impressive plasterwork.
The atmospheric Library and elegant Drawing Room are the classic country house retreats with antique books, a large oak desk, armchairs, a sofa and a satellite TV. The Dining Room with stunning views features an expandable dining table for 18 guests; the room works well for lunch parties and long convivial dinners with gilt pelmets and blue painted walls.
The Kitchen/Breakfast Room successfully combines the traditional morning room with a generous modern kitchen with granite worktops and an impressive central island. There are ample facilities: 3 ovens, a microwave, a large induction hob, a dishwasher, a large fridge and plentiful china and cutlery. A modern oak table makes this the ideal spot for family meals.
The Studio/Playroom is a modern room with a double-height ceiling and a study gallery with a door to the children's playroom garden. Used as a prep kitchen for more significant events, it usually features a sofa, table and chairs, a TV/DVD and a selection of board games.
The expansive hall dominated by a vast Golden Oak sideboard mounted with a stag's head is a remarkable feature. The Middle hall has a large and ornate dark wood staircase to the first floor, lit by two large Venetian windows, reflected in large gilt mirrors, a snooker table a Bechstein baby grand piano. The Back Hall also offers a comfortable reading or relaxing space with a large sofa, a chess table and a bookcase full of novels.
There are four principal bedrooms (sleeping 8) on the first floor, 3 have en-suite bathrooms, and the other has a separate shower room and separate WC/bathroom. All the rooms feature white Egyptian Cotton bed linen and large fluffy towels top of the range. Most have working shutters as well as blinds and curtains.
There are two further bedrooms on the Garden Floor. One room with a modern 5'3" (King size) four-poster bed and one with a 4' (Large Single) bed. Both rooms have a shared shower room/WC door and can be used as a private suite. Next to these bedrooms is a Utility Room with two washing machines, two dryers, a gas hob and a combination microwave oven.
The estate covers over 100 acres with many private walks. Boat trips and fishing can be arranged from your doorstep, and the surrounding area has fabulous walking, climbing, cycling, horse riding, golf, fishing and entertainment facilities.
In front of the House is a large lawn able to accommodate helicopter landings.
A sense of deep tranquility descends as one approaches the property along the tree lined, sweeping drive, with views of the mountains in the distance. The house coming into view with a giant, spreading cypress opposite the grand portico is approachably majestic, like coming upon a resting Bridgerton set. As the lake and its islands come into view behind the manicured expansive lawn, with its gravel paths, gates and surrounding wildwoods and mountains, the setting takes your breath away. It is impossible to describe in words, or even show in pictures, this indescribably beautiful, peaceful place. This is a place to restore one's soul. The interior of the home is impeccable, tastefully decorated, and radiates charm and comfort. It is grand, but comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked, Sir Maurice made sure we had a stock of basic provisions, as well as several bottles of his excellent whiskey (produced on premises) and a couple of bottles of champagne on arrival. The beds and bedding are extremely comfortable, the showers have great pressure, and the whole thing is kept absolutely pristine by the unobtrusive, charming housekeeper Kinge. The house is, among other things, an art and history museum, especially as it relates to the O'Connell's and their related clans. The memory of the great Liberator (for whom the whiskey is named), Daniel O'Connell, is pervasive. Maurice and Francesca are perfect hosts. I wish we could have stayed longer than four weeks.

Wonderful host and beautiful property. If you are looking for peace and a unique historic experience, this is the place. Whiskey distillery on property and amazing views with no neighbors in site. All amenities and activities are close by and we enjoyed a week that we will never forget.

It's hard to know where to begin...because there were so many aspects to the Lakeview experience that made it my top trip of all time - and I'm an old bird who's been many places.
First, Killarney is my most favorite place in the world. Full stop. And in our many previous visits, my husband and I would stay at the Aghadoe Heights because of the view, which is breathtaking. Never did I think it could be improved upon. Alas, I was wrong. The best way to describe it this... staying at the Aghadoe is like watching your favourite actor on stage, but staying at Lakeview is like having a drink with them. There is an intimacy with the surroundings at Lakeview that cannot be duplicated by staying in a hotel, no matter how nice.
Second, the people…Maurice could not have been more welcoming – we showed up three hours early, almost unannounced, and he did not bat an eye. He was available throughout the week by phone to answer our questions as we came upon them. Peter, the estate manager, was equally accommodating with helpful hints around the manor and in town. Bernadette, the house manager, was both “there” and “not there” at the same time, keeping things stocked and tidy.
