Undoubtedly, this is one of the best walking areas in the Dales, with The Dales Way passing nearby, good access to Buckden Pike and gentle walks along the riverbanks. The village itself comprises a cluster of stone built cottages and houses with, at its centre, the wonderful 'Fox and Hounds' pub serving great ales and fine food.

This is undoubtedly a beautiful home in a stunning location. On arrival we were very impressed with both the property and the beautiful surroundings. Sadly, our stay was short-lived and essentially ruined by Storm Arwen which led to power outages at the property. The caretaker came to check on us the morning after we arrived, but we were informed there was nothing he could do in order to relight the Aga (which would have given us heating and cooking facilities). We then ''camped' at Hilltop hoping for the power to return, but to no avail, and so reluctantly, we left the house days earlier than we planned. We contacted both Sykes and the owners but were given short shrift by both. Sykes Cottages essentially washed their hands of us whilst the owners showed a distinct lack of compassion and refused to refund any of our money. They claimed they would try and recoup some of the money from their insurers, but almost seven months later, we have heard nothing. Just hope that if you do chose this property, nothing goes wrong and no natural disasters befall you!

We stayed at the lovely Hilltop House for a surprise retirement family get together. Couldn't have chosen a lovelier house, a more stunning location or more helpful owners. The house is stylishly presented and of great quality, gardens and grounds are a delight and walks literally from the door are wonderful. We hired the services of Duncan Collinge from locally based White Rose Catering who came in and prepared us an amazing meal. What a way to celebrate ! All three generations loved the whole experience and we cant wait to find an excuse to come back as a weekend was just not long enough. Don't hesitate just book this real gem of a place.

Hilltop is smart, spacious, clean and homely. As a large family mixed with grandparents, siblings, pre schoolers and a baby, it was a perfect base for us. We all made full use of the hot tub and its extensive views. The annex rooms were brilliant as it meant that some of us could be away from the noisier members of the household. The huge enclosed garden was perfect for the children to run around and fly a kite. It's also really well placed for exploring the river, with lovely picnic/Rock-hopping sites to find, especially up at yockenthwaite which is a short drive away. The local pub was friendly and welcoming too. A very enjoyable trip. The owners were excellent in terms of contact and making sure all was well but there really wasn't anything of issue in the house at all.

Stunning property in an idyllic location. The house is immaculately presented throughout and all the bedrooms are equally beautiful which is very important when you are in a large group as nobody wants to get the sub standard room!!
The house is within easy walking distance to pubs and village shop and the scenery is breath taking.

This house is in one of the most beautiful places in the world and we were excited to spend Christmas there. Unfortunately the beauty of the location - and the actual house - were not matched by either the maintenance of the property or, more importantly, the level of hospitality offered by the owner. There were numerous problems, including a hot tub full of old smelly water from the previous guests, mouse droppings and mould in the bathroom and the Aga not working properly (we had to call out the engineer to repair it), broken light fittings, damp firewood... But the owner (hundreds of miles away in London) failed spectacularly to remedy any problems or even to apologise for them. In fact, when we complained at the end of our stay she accused us of having broken things but quickly had to retract as she had no grounds for the accusation. We've had family Christmas in other big houses for the best part of a decade and we've never had this kind of basic lack of hospitality and grace. A real shame that such a lovely house is being run in this way.

What a lovely house! Would highly recommend. Stayed here as with 9 others. Bedrooms are spacious. Sitting room is very cozy. Dining room and kitchen are fab and not to mention the hot tub outside amongst the beautiful view. The house was very clean and tidy. House is well equipped and some things are very thoughtful. Thank you for a great stay. Would definitely stay here again.
