Area The market town of Skipton is known as the gateway to the Dales, resting on the fringes of the national park. The town offers an ancient castle, a beautiful old parish church and a colourful market, held four times a week, occupying the cobbled high street. Steam railways with regular excursions are available at Embsay and Bolton Abbey, and the Leeds and Liverpool Canal passes through Skipton, offering a lovely walking and cycling route.
