Even though Equilibrium is on the garden level, it feels like it could be a loft in Brooklyn. The host, Gil, is an architect, and he designed the place himself, from what used to be a garage. It still has a very industrial feel to it – if you’re after kitsch cosiness, you won’t find it here – and we love the unusual touches that come with that (the kitchen swing is a particular highlight). There aren’t any doors to the bedrooms, which won’t be for everyone, but we think that adds to the character, as does the plant-filled terrace.
Home truths: *Gil can sort out a parking space, but you'll have to ask him beforehand
*Neither of the bedrooms have doors, just curtains
*There's a fair amount of Gil's belongings around the place – it's by no means crowded, but just worth being aware
