July 2023
My family and I stayed at Cunsey Lodge in July of 2023.
At the time of our visit, the lodge was described as a 5* luxury holiday home. Unfortunately, this was far from the reality of what we found when we arrived.

The property looked very tired and needed some serious maintenance. The furniture was old and ripped in places, especially the foot stool. The food mats for the table were very worn. The dishwasher had not been properly maintained and the filter had been clogged up with food bits that we had to clean.
The paintwork was poor, the plaster damaged, wobbly handles on doors and badly hung doors. We had several lampshades that were broken and or cracked. Sadly, the cleanliness of the property was not up to standards with several of the bathroom shower heads left filthy with what looked like mould. There were dead flies in most if not all spotlights and in the insides of the window frames. Whilst Cunsey lodge is a large house which is capable of accomodating 8 people, it does not mean it is a luxury holiday home by default.

The hottub area outside was clean and there were plenty of seats etc, however having to fill the hottub with water ourselves from a hose did not feel like a 5* luxury experience.

The next issue we had surrounded the pool on the estate. When we booked, there was nothing to tell us about the need to book "slots" for the pool, nor did the advert explain that the pool was an 8 minute drive away from the holiday house and has no changing facilities. The photos on the advert made it seem as if the pool was adjoined to the property.

The maximum time for each booking was 45 minutes per day, and the software stated no more than 1 slot per day could be booked. This 45 mins also included changing time. We can currently go swimming for a longer period at our local leisure centre than we could at Cunsey Lodge during our supposedly 5* holiday.

The state of the pool was rather disgusting, no cleaning rota was displayed and a dirty tissue remained in the same place for days - indicating that floor had not been swept, let alone mopped.
The cover to the filter on the floor of the pool was also cracked, tiles were broken and the hand rail loose.

We have let Graythwaite estates know of our issues, and whilst they have responded, not once during any of our communications have we received an apology and that speaks volumes.

Graythwaite are currently helping us to resolve our bad experience, but we felt it was important to give an honest review of our stay at Cunsey Lodge. We as a family agree that the £3,600+ we spent on this holiday did not reflect the condition of the property by any means.
