Cartmel is home to an impressive 12th century priory as well as its own racecourse which hosts a range of events throughout the year and plenty of places to eat and drink to suit everyone.
Set out on foot to one of the many walking routes in the area, which take in Hampsfell and Eggerslack Wood or take a short drive to Ambleside, Grasmere, Coniston or Ulverston, this is a perfect base to explore some of the hidden treasures of the Lake District. Or why not rest your feet and hop on the Lake Windermere steamer, which winds its way for ten miles into the central fells, passing Bowness and Sawrey along the way.
