With a view of the Blue Mountains National Park and not far from the town of Katoomba, this cabin amid the apple orchards offers the ultimate escape into the Australian bush. It’s on a working farm, so expect to see folk harvesting apples (you can buy the produce in the on-site shop) and free-range chooks roaming around. After heart-soaring sunsets, the sky feels like it’s filled with infinite stars – best enjoyed by the warmth of the fire pit or soaking in the outdoor bathtub. Inside, the twinkling stringed lights adorning wooden ceilings are a nod to the night sky, and a sleek kitchen, huge wood-burning stove and vast, open-plan set-up feel like complete luxury.
Home truths: *This home is set within a working apple orchard, so you may see your hosts harvesting fruit and tending to the trees during your stay. Between mid-February and the end of July the farm is open to the public.
*There is a working dog on the farm and plenty of livestock around so if you're not an animal person, this is not the place for you.
*Your hosts are on-hand during the day but are unavailable after 5pm every night and you may be required to change the gas canister yourself if it runs out.
*In a super remote location, having a car is essential and there is private parking.
*Your host provides starter firewood and you can buy more in the local town.
*Due to a nearby, unfenced body of water, this place is not suitable for kids.
