Area Corbridge, a wonderful ancient community surrounded by magnificent unspoilt Northumbrian countryside, provides a wealth of attractions, including specialised stores, old inns, and a 12th century river bridge. Hadrian's Wall and Housesteads Fort are nearby, while Hexham, a market town with small, bustling streets, a decent selection of shops, and a fascinating abbey with 15th century frescoes and a superb Saxon crypt, is a few miles away and well worth a visit. Border Country, the Northumbrian coast, Kielder Forest (with cycling and watersports), Beamish Open Air Museum, and Durham Cathedral are all within easy driving distance, while the Gateshead Metro Centre (one of Europe's largest shopping malls) is 20 miles east. Locally, there is excellent golf as well as fly and coarse fishing.
