The cows who used to sleep in this Yorkshire barn conversion would be mooing in confusion to see it in its current state. A complete 5-star makeover has transformed the antique stone shell into a luxurious country escape, complete with SONOS sound system, four-posted beds, roll top cast iron bathtub and underfloor heating. One of Conde Nast Traveller’s handpicked stays in the UK for 2021, it also offers incredible views out across the Yorkshire Dales, which you can enjoy from the balcony off the master bedroom. Hosts leave a welcome hamper on arrival, and can arrange special treats including flowers, champagne and a masseuse. Today the only animals permitted are the guests’ pampered pooches, who’ll love the ten acres of enclosed grounds and four dog-friendly pubs within walkies distance. Slightly further afield, it’s a 13-minute drive to Harrogate, Yorkshire’s smartest town, whereyou’ll find Harlow Carr RHS gardens and Betty’s Tea Room (make sure you stop in for a "fat rascal"). In fact, the only thing we could possibly fault here is that someone seems to have gone a bit OTT with the Union Jack throw pillows, but the motif serves to remind you that this is one of the Best of British stays.
