The Castle (open to the public) is one of the most grand in England. Staindrop has many interesting shops, pubs and cafes set round its long village green. The popular market town of Barnard Castle is 5 miles away, with its castle, the Bowes Museum, plus of course its wide range of shops and tea rooms. Walkers will enjoy the many walks around Teesdale.

Where to start the place is very well maintained; great facilities home from home; well laid out everything to hand; easy to find; ample parking great for luxury break with friends and family would make a great couples retreat as well as very peaceful; village a short walk everything working and is high quality finish many thanks would consider staying there again.
The only thing that bugged me was I never did find the driveway lights lol wanted to see them on at night as the driveway is a good 200m long and would look ace if I could have found the light switch for them. Lol
Get your self booked in have a great peaceful retreat!

WOW! What a fantastic midweek break we have had at the bell house barn. Every detail has been thought of from the lovely warm welcome from Angela who can’t do enough for you, to the welcome pack including fresh bread, milk scones, jam, lemonade and fizz.
The barn has been tastefully decorated and furnished to the very highest standard throughout and is truly one of the best properties in the area that we have stayed in. Lovely added touches like dressing gowns, slippers, and toiletries provided make it an absolute home from home experience. We were spoilt for choice choosing which bedrooms we all wanted as they are all beautiful.
It’s the perfect place and environment to return after having some fabulous day’s out. The location is peaceful and stunning with amazing views, yet near to everything we wanted. The grounds are kept fantastic and the amazing hot tub only added to the experience.
We enjoyed some real family time cooking and eating in the huge fantastic kitchen and dining room. The cinema quality entertainment system was brilliant for both music and films. I would not hesitate to recommend this property and we will definitely be returning sometime soon.

Just on our way home from a fantastic week at Bell House Barn. Wishing we could stay another week in this beautiful Property. The views are spectacular and even the drive up to the house is impressive! The garden and downstairs of the house are fantastic for children. We had a 6, 2 and 18m old, a four legged friend, plus 6 adults. The house was the perfect size for all of us. We enjoyed the Sonos system, and all the other mod-cons. The paddock was great for the dog and the kids to the run around and the hot tub was a great addition (that wasn’t listed when we booked!)

A big thank you to Angela, the housekeeper, who gave us a warm welcome and went above and beyond to ensure we had a comfortable stay (even popping in on Sunday morning to show us how to work the coffee machine!) and thanks for the owner for renting out his house!

The stairs are not really suitable for children. We didn’t have any problems but just something to be aware of.

A few suggestions that would make this house even more fantastic:
A tumble dryer- the small clothes horse wasn’t really sufficient for 8 lots of cloths/towels, especially when in and out the hot tub several times a day. (I would recommend taking plenty of extra towels and several swim suits each if you plan to use the hot tub a lot!)
Possibly a gate at the top of the driveway- this would provide peace of mind to parents that small kids have not wondered off, as the garden wraps around the whole house so it is easy to lose sight of little ones. (However the driveway is so long it would be unlikely they’d reach the road before you found them.)
The cupboard of electronics gets very hot- not sure this is the safest and best way for these items to be kept. However, great to have all these facilities in the house!

Thanks for a wonderful stay! (Ps we will miss that amazing kitchen!)

Words really cannot do Bell House Barn justice. It is truly outstanding in every way! The property is beautiful both inside and outside and is situated in a peaceful location surrounded by stunning views. We found it to be very clean and well equipped with everything we could of needed there. Robes and slippers were a nice touch. The hot tub was fantastic and well maintained throughout our stay. The large paddock was very much loved by our dogs!! Come rain or shine - Bell House Barn was heaven!
