Property Overview

Idyllically set in 40 acres of woodland, this 18th-century manor house overlooks one of the most scenic rivers in Killarney, County Kerry.

Originally a castle, the mansion house and cottages provide luxury self-catering accommodation for up to 30 guests.

This historic property dates back to 1598, when in 1760, the present house was built with the remaining three walls of the castle forming the hallway, which makes it probably the oldest inhabited space in Kerry.

The interior was altered in 1840, and the chimney pieces and plasterwork date from this time.

Accommodation:

Along with the main house, there are four self-catering cottages.
The main house sleeps eight, and one of the cottages also sleeps 8.
One cottage sleeps 6, and 2 cottages sleep four each.

Main House:

Totally refurbished in recent years, the mansion house is now available for holiday rentals, offering four large double bedrooms, each with king-size beds convertible to twin (two single beds) and en suite bathroom. Reception rooms include a drawing room, library and formal dining room.

Cottages:

In 1998 the 18th-century stone courtyard was converted to provide additional accommodation in four superbly appointed cottages-they are named after Killarney's rivers. The largest, Laune, has four bedrooms, Flesk has three bedrooms and Torc and Keal each has two bedrooms.

The comfortable sitting rooms have warm, open fires, CD stereos, televisions and video recorders. Each cottage also has a utility room with a washing machine. The two larger cottages have especially spacious dining areas and sitting rooms, ideal for entertaining.

All the bedrooms are equally spacious with king-size beds, convertible to a twin, and every bedroom has an en suite bathroom. We provide all linen, including Egyptian cotton bed linen and bath towels, but beach towels are not provided.

The kitchen/dining room areas open onto south or west-facing terraces with views of the mountains. The kitchens are equipped with gas hobs, double ovens, microwaves and dishwashers.

We had a family celebration - 45th wedding anniversary and Donald and Rachel were brilliant. The house was better than expected as the rooms were very large and there was even servicing in the week. Everything we wanted was provided. The arrangement of the property enabled the 17 of us to be able to be together at times and also to give each group space to themselves. We had great weather so it was also easy to have a barbecue for all as well. Just a truly memorable experience.

We cannot say enough good about this mansion house and cottages. We had 24 family members together for a week, and each day just got better. We had the main house and two of the cottages, giving us room to spread out but still be together. We loved the parlour for family meetings and devotionals, the library for games and quiet time, and the dining room for eating and playing Mofia by candlelight. It added atmosphere to build fires in the fireplaces. The kitchen was well-stocked and easy to use.

We invented a game of “scavenger hunt” that was so fun and lasted throughout the week! Someone would take a picture on their phone of a picture, or object in the house and post it. The rest of the family would try to be the first to find it throughout the day. So many interesting things to take pictures of!!

We also LOVED the grounds where the kids could safely play. The swings, the river for swimming and fishing, the grass for frisbee etc.; the patio for eating when the sun was out.

We loved being close to the Gap of Dunloe and the National Park.

Our hosts were helpful and provided us with everything we needed and extras. We didn’t realise we would have a housekeeper come in each morning! Thanks to our hosts for providing this amazing place. We loved it and we loved Ireland!

"Wonderful from start to finish"

We had a family birthday celebration for a week.

There were 26 of us, ages 1-70+ . Rachel and Don could not have been more helpful and Noreen who helped in the main house is a gem. We fished, hiked, golfed, rode pony carts and boats thru the Dunloe Gap, trail rode, explored Killarney Dingle and the beaches..

And had lovely meals in and out.

We are calling it a “Magical “ vacation
