Area The market town of Bridgnorth is split in two halves, the High Town and the Low Town, separated by a red sandstone ridge and the River Severn that flows through the town. Connecting the two halves are winding streets, flights of stairs and the steep funicular railway. The town boasts an exciting selection of shops and eateries, as well as a host of heritage, including the ruins of a fortress, dating back to 896 and Lavington's Hole, a Civil War-aged tunnel dug into the towns soft sandstone.
Region A E Housman once wrote that Shropshire was “the quietest place under the sun” and today the county remains something of a rural idyll, recognised as one of the least crowded and most peaceful regions in England.
