Property Overview

Loughcrew House and Gardens are a 17th and 19th Century Irish landscape steeped in compelling history, with numerous scenic gardens and pleasure walks to enjoy. Home to the St. Oliver Plunkett Family Church, the central six-acre expanse was restored by generations of designers leading back to Charles Robert Cockerell, an innovator of neo-classical architecture. Today, we can marvel at an array of alluring routes through this planned-landscape.

An impressive avenue of yew trees dominate the main walk, surveying an elegant parterre. Extensive lawns and terraces are encased by a physic and herbaceous border, with a canal and water gardens to be found further on. A medieval motte and walled garden also occupy a place in this diverse canvas. Beyond the gardens are a panorama of hills and an extended walk through an oak and laurel forest to Lough Croabh. The lake makes a remarkable scene with its crannog, and its reflection of the steep forested hills surrounding it.

This surrounding country is also home to some of Ireland’s oldest archaeological treasures, and a site of enormous historical and religious significance. The gardens at Loughcrew provide a breathtaking spectacle, steeped in historical intrigue. This expansive Boutique Estate can be booked for a stay in which the guests can enjoy free reign over the entirety of the House and grounds.

Here at Loughcrew we endeavour to make your visit to us an educational, relaxing and memorable time. Loughcrew is a place for the whole family to come and enjoy a day out and about. "Absolutely fantastic!!"
Thoroughly enjoyed our morning at Loughcrew earlier this week- our instructor Jamie was so brilliant and the kids absolutely loved all the activities in fun relaxed atmosphere-we joined in for all the fun but for those parents that want to stay dry avoid the assault course!!
Have to say this place feels like a hidden gem, not to be missed!!!
Recommend for kids from 6/7 up , family day out/school tour/corporate team building.

"Excellent adventure day - perfect for teens"
We were a group of 10: 3 adults and 7 teenagers and we booked a half day (3hours). Angus was our guide. First we discussed with him the types of activities we were interested in doing - we are two families of athletic youths and we wanted group challenges. We started off with the witches ropes (great fun and you have to work together) and then we did a rope challenge which was more of a mental figuring out type of task - again, we had to work together. Then we did competitive archery which was a lot more fun than I thought it would be. We did an assault course which was wet and muddy - exactly what we had in mind. We knew we were expected to bring a change of clothes. We did the rock climbing wall and a very physical rope course through the woods. Finishing up with the Crannog challenge (both mental and physical challenge) was perfect as we all got soaked and then we could go change into our spare clothes. Brilliant fun. Highly recommend. Angus listened to what we wanted and tailored the day to suit us. Thank you Angus!

The Limetree Coffee Shop is amazing - tasty food and very nice service.
The gardens are great, especially for children who love fairies. Lots of fairy stuff! As we were there at the beginning of spring, not many flowers were there yet. Big grass areas.
They have there adventure centre. Check the website for that. The zip lines looked cool.
We did not visit the Estate (it’s close by though)
