Bishopstown House is a three-storey Georgian house built in the early 1800s by the Casey family.
After being left fall into a dilapidated state, the stud farm and house was purchased by Paddy and Claire Dunning, the owners of the award-winning Grouse Lodge Recording Studios and Coolatore House and members of the Georgian society. It was restored to its former glory in 2009 and is now available for rent.
Accommodation:
Bishopstown features six very spacious bedrooms in the main house, all of which feature king sized beds and luxurious furnishings. Two are double rooms (1 double bed in each room) and four are triple rooms (1 double bed and 1 single bed in each room). Four of our bedrooms are en-suite, with large modern bathrooms. The non-en-suite bedrooms share a bathroom with private access. There is a further bathroom within the house.
We have a further two en-suite bedrooms available in our courtyard, offering you further accommodation options. We have a two luxury double rooms in the courtyard.
All bed linens and towels are provided. We have an eco-friendly gas heating system, with under-floor heating. The fireplaces are replenished by our weekend staff on Saturdays, and ample spare fuel will be available to weekend and mid-week guests.
The traditional Georgian country kitchen at Bishopstown is a beautiful place to cook, eat, unwind and entertain in. Featuring dozens of period items such as a beautiful Aga Range cooker (which gives 24 hour warmth), the kitchen also contains many modern features such as an American-style fridge, standard gas oven, microwave and more besides. The centrepiece of the kitchen is a spacious kitchen island. With ample storage, and plenty of equipment the kitchen can cater for any size of group. It leads onto a well-stocked scullery, or back kitchen, which features a washing machine, storage space and even a second oven. A good kitchen is at the heart of every good home, and we like to think we have a great one at Bishopstown!
Bishopstown House is self-catering accommodation, however, catering is available upon request. We can do great formal or informal evening meals, lunches, BBQ's and breakfasts.
A wide range of restaurants, coffee-shops, hotels and cafes catering for every imaginable taste are located in the nearby towns of Moate, Mullingar and Athlone. When it comes to pubs, guests are absolutely spoilt for choice with some great Irish pubs of character and craic all a short distance away.
The full house and courtyard, with eight guest bedrooms, two living rooms, bar, function room etc is available for self-catering guests.
Towels and linens, wifi, Sky TV, heating and electricity and much more is included in rental price.
Was at a hen here last weekend & what a treat it was! We didn’t leave the place all weekend, we had so much fun! The house was gorgeous and so clean, so many rooms and the onsite pub with karaoke was a blast! Paddy the owner was very facilitating and put on the fires & brought us turf which was so nice. He recommended a caterer called Nini.....the food she provided was just gorgeous! I had the loveliest time here. I can’t wait to go back!

We had a fab time here. Such a fab place for a hen party and such fun to be all under the one roof. The dining room and kitchen were absolutely super for what we needed. From breakfast being brought in, afternoon tea party and then yoga there was lots of space for everything and for everyone to be together, which was brilliant for almost 30 people.
Paddy couldn’t have been more helpful with keeping the fires lit, putting the bride up on his horse and making sure everyone got there ok, helping with directions etc also. Made everyone feel at home.
Would defo recommend for a girlie weekend and absolutely ideal for a hen weekend. We did get a bus into Athlone on the Sat night for dinner and dancing and that also worked out really well and the companies/contacts all provided by the house were fantastic. Defo recommend using Nini catering also for bringing in the cooked brekkie!
The bar also and the karaoke were such fun also on the Friday night and everyone was in awe at how many things would be fitted in!
Thanks again for a fab stay!

"Amazing location for a hen!" I can not recommend this house highly enough. We were a hen party of 15 and we all loved it especially the Karaoke/bar room! The house has so much character and the surroundings are stunning. The owner and staff couldn't be more helpful. We will definitely be back!

"Great for a Hen party" I went the this stunning, old Manor House with 14 other girls for a hen party. We had a lovely chill out night before the heavy session the following day. Little did we know this Manor House has a barn converted into a bar, a fully equipped music studio and an amazing, relaxing spa. The pool is filled with clean, refreshing, spring water. There is a jacuzzi and a sauna also. The owners are a couple who couldn't of been anymore accommodating for you're every need. Really great place and I will sure to go back!
