Newport House

B&B in Mayo, Ireland

14 bedrooms

Property Overview

Luxury bed and breakfast accommodation in historic Irish country house overlooking the tidal river and quay in the quaint village of Newport.

Newport House enjoys a privileged location resting between Achill Island and the mountains of Mayo close to the wild and unspoilt areas of Erris and Connemara.

All the reception rooms are spacious and appropriately furnished. The bedrooms have individuality as well as comfort. Twelve are in the main house. The others are in two smaller houses near the courtyard, one of which was previously the holiday residence of the late Sean Lemass, Prime Minister of Ireland. Some bedrooms are well suited for families, as they are in self-contained sections.

The superb menu reflects the hospitable character of the house, using fresh produce from the fishery, garden and farm. The cellar is internationally renowned and compliments the cuisine.

Beautiful, quaint, fasinating old house
We arrived here out of the blue, not realising that the hotel does not really cater to random callers arriving looking for food mid day.
However we were made to feel very welcome by the very nice receptionist, who explained that they do evening dinner by reservation, and they also have guests staying. She generously offered to make us a cup of tea.
She kindly showed us in to a lovely sitting room with open fire burning brightly, and invited us to sit and relax.
She served delicious home made biscuits, and proper tea made with tea leaves in a silver tea pot! Tray, sugar bowl, jug and water pot were all beautiful silver!
The bar, dining room and other sitting room were all delightful.
Thank you for this lovely treat, for a VERY reasonable price, even though we were not expected to walk in unannounced!

"Lovely stay"
My husband and I have just had another lovely stay at Newport House. It is such a delight to return. Many of the same faces, lovely room and, of course, delicious food. We are already looking forward to our next visit.

"Beautiful elegant place"
Lovely place, great dinner with lovely wine, great service and surroundings. Overlooking a beautiful river. It’s like stepping back in time to the most elegant house. With all the memorabilia there for everyone to see really makes you feel part of it all.

The most amazing meal!
Though we didn’t end up staying here as my father was much too large for their beds at 6 foot/ 182 cen. We did end up joining them for a fantastic 4 course meal with the most amazing desserts!

We stayed at a hotel winthin walking distance and the whole experience was perfection from start to finish. I even got to wear the nice dress I packed!

The staff were lovely and helpful and gave us an overview of all of history of this gem of a hotel. I’m lucky to have been trained in which fork etc to use in such a formal setting but though my companion did not, they did not make us feel out of place what so ever. Definitely recommend for a special occasion or a fancy night out in the area.
