A sui generis experience in Achill
Jon has created something quite unique here in Achill. Ferndale is a Bord Failte Five Star Registered B&B with five Bedrooms (3 of which are suites), three medium sized lounges, and a Bar.
The two 'standard' bedrooms (nothing 'standard' about them) and the three suites are all tastefully decorated with distinctive furniture and fixings set around a Theme - Arabian, Chinese, Mayan, Roman and Venetian,
All possess a super kingsize bed, a 50" TV with DVD player, and a functioning Mini fridge all of which one never sees outside of a five star hotel let alone a B&B.
Jon (Swiss) opened Ferndale 20 years ago as a restaurant but later converted it into the remarkable B&B that it now is. His original training as a Chef shines through in the spectacular Break_Feasts he provides (the word breakfast would be a tremendous discredit here). Jon loves ensuring that his guests are totally overfed so please forget about your waistline when you stay here.
Jon and his partner Alex are kind souls, generous to a fault, and manifest their origins in their penchant for precision and order (Swiss and German respectively) in all their daily implementations and the execution of any requests by guests.
Jon is multilingual (German, French, Italian and English) and this must surely be a great boon to non-English speakers who visit here.
We stayed a week in Ferndale and such was the luxury of this place that even dark wet days were spent either in the superb bedrooms looking out at the delightful view or chilling in the lounge with friends and a drink.
An utterly incomparable stay - and one we intend to repeat year on year hereon!

We have just had the most amazing three day stay here in Ferndale - excellent ambience - beautiful house and amazing hosts - we will be back for sure - it is the most amazing and innovative Bed and breakfast we have ever had the pleasure of visiting

"A Brilliant Roman Experience"
This place is totally amazing, the decor is stunning (we had the Roman Paelestra room).This was one of our stops on the Wild Atlantic Way cycle route and we stayed for 2 nights, a unique, exquisite and luxurious experience. The hosts were brilliant, the breakfast menu worthy of a top class hotel and we even had tea, cake and chocolates in the garden one afternoon.We rate this the best stay on our trip and hope to return one day.Cannot praise everything highly enough.

Just spent a lovely night at this wonderful B&B.
Arrived tired after a long hot day cycling and couldn’t have been happier to be greeted by such warm friendly hosts. Our room was the Venetian and it had everything you could wish for. Views to die for. A minibar. Big stand alone bath and wonderful power shower which was much needed. Alex booked us a table at the local seafood restaurant and directed us to a local pub for some refreshments and entertainment. We had a wonderful evening. Next morning after a great sleep in a really comfortable bed we had a cracking breakfast and left wishing we’d booked a few more nights.
Thoroughly recommend this place. A real gem.

Having stayed in Ferndale every year since 2008 we cannot speak highly enough of the very professional and friendly service, decor and comfort, and superb food. not to mention the spectacular views.

We look forward to going there every year and to see Jon, Alex and Heidi. They always make us feel very welcome and our says re always very happy and enjoyable.

"Wonderful B&B in Achill Island"
We really enjoyed our stay here. John and Alex are great hosts- very helpful and informative. They are also very enjoyable to chat with. The rooms are a little quirky and each represents a certain geographic location. Our room was large and very comfortable-- the best bed I slept in during our trip. We had a great sea view. It is also within walking distance of the town which is convenient. Breakfast is cooked to order and delicious.
