Butler House & Gardens Weddings: Kilkenny

Butler House is the Dower House of Kilkenny Castle and was home to the Earls of Ormonde who also built the Kilkenny Castle, stables and coach house at the rear. Sweeping staircases, magnificent plastered ceilings, marble fireplaces and a charming walled garden are all features of this notable Georgian residence. Butler House is ultimately a bespoke small wedding venue in Kilkenny, we can adapt our weddings to suit you whether you have five guests or fifty, and we will tailor our packages to suit your needs. We have created truly unique weddings in the past, including barefoot humanist ceremonies on the lawn, evening and weekend civil ceremonies for as little as four guests to a banquet for 60 guests, and the house and garden are the perfect backdrops for your wedding photography. Here at Butler House, you have a choice of three magnificent rooms, with plasterwork ceilings and large bow windows overlooking our Georgian Walled Garden and Kilkenny Castle.

The superb location of Butler House in the centre of historic Kilkenny City offers visitors the best of two worlds. Through the front door, you will find Patrick Street, a two-minute walk to the centre of the city. Through the back door, you will be surprised to find the internationally renowned Butler House Walled Garden. This charming Georgian garden was restored to its former glory in 1999 and boasts its own private entrance to the Castle yard and Kilkenny Castle. We also offer exclusive use of the entire property for 24 hours, including accommodation and a 'second-day event' such as Afternoon Tea, or a BBQ in our beautiful Garden.

"Wedding!"
We had our wedding in Butler House last month. It was one of the best days of our life and it’s all thanks to the brilliant staff and surroundings of Butler House. The food was amazing and everyone said to us how brilliant and unique our wedding was. I honestly couldn’t recommend it more for a wedding.

"Got married here!"
While I can’t comment on the accommodation as I didn’t stay the night, I recently got married here and my God what an amazing day. The staff at Butler House made everything perfect and worked tirelessly to ensure the day went off without a hitch. A lady called Norene (I’ll leave out last name in interests of privacy) was fantastic, as were others... I’ve never known such an accommodating bunch and can’t thank them enough.

Our family and friends agree with us that the food prepared for our post ceremony dinner was top notch, and they catered for carnivores and vegans alike. Many thanks to the chefs and culinary staff!

The house itself is truly special; while it looks similar to many of the old world buildings in town when viewed from the street, the other side reveals its full glory as a stately house, boasting a beautiful garden and a view of Kilkenny castle.

We looked at many places in Ireland to get married before settling on Butler House, and it was 100% the right choice. Our wedding was on the smaller side but they cater to a larger amount of guests as well. If you’re looking to get married here, Butler House don’t have a facility for loud music (I’m assuming due to residences in close proximity, completely understandable) but it didn’t detract from the day, we simply had the reception down the road (there being no shortage of places to party in Kilkenny!)

Cheers to all at Butler House for a day we’ll never forget. 10/10

I’m in Kilkenny as part of a tour with Alpine Adventures from California. My daughter has chosen Butler House as her wedding venue. Being here now gave me & my friends the opportunity to see Butler House in person. We were ALL impressed. All 14 of us. The staff couldn’t have been more accommodating & friendly. We were set up in a lovely room with a view of the gardens to have our lunch. Everyone’s entree was beautifully presented & delicious. We enjoyed desserts as well.
The history of Butler House & it’s connection to the Kilkenny Castle just makes the experience even more enjoyable. If I had more time I would come back for an afternoon tea. Next time I will book a room too.
