Its location on a hill meant then that it was safe from invaders – now it means there are incredible views of the nature reserve on one side and the rich Roman countryside on the other. Best of all, it’s only a ten-minute walk from the train station, so you can pop in and out of Rome whenever you like.

The property is set within a private park, so oak, olive and pine trees surround the home – strolling through the grounds is a peaceful way to start the day. You might then like to swim in the pool, again taking in the views, and soaking up the tranquil atmosphere – it’s hard to believe you’re so close to Rome. Stroll into town for lunch at the local pizzeria, and take your time – things move a little more slowly here.

When you want to speed things up, head into Rome. The train to Tiburtina takes eighteen minutes, and from there you can zip around the city on the metro. See the sights, sip coffee in bustling piazzas, and dine in top-notch eateries. And when you’ve had your fill, you can leave the crowds behind and return to your peaceful apartment. Open a bottle of wine in the garden and watch the sun set over the Tiber – it’s the perfect way to end your Roman holiday.
